Stories and highlights
There's always something to celebrate at our school! From exciting events to proud moments and everyday wins, here are some of our highlights.
A year at our school
Visiting Author - Gregg Dreise - June 2026
We were honoured to welcome Gregg Dreise, Kamilaroi author and illustrator and ambassador for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation to our school. All students enjoyed a session with Gregg who presented his book Greedy Frog and brought it to life with humour, call and response, movement and music.
There was also an opportunity for students to explore a garden Story Walk of his most popular book Silly Birds.
Autism Awareness Day - 2nd April 2026
Here at Asquith Public School, we recognise and celebrate the unique differences that make our community vibrant.
Autism Awareness Day provided an opportunity for students to take part in thoughtful discussions about inclusion, understanding and embracing what makes each individual special.
Official Opening of Yarning Circle 4th March 2026
The opening of our school’s Yarning Circle was a powerful and deeply meaningful event, bringing together community, culture, and connection. Beginning with a traditional Smoking Ceremony led by Uncle Les, a respected Elder the smoke gently drifted across the gathering, symbolising cleansing, protection, and the bringing together of all who stood there - students, staff, families, and community members.
The Yarning Circle itself stands as a place of listening, learning, and sharing. Its creation reflects our commitment to honouring Aboriginal culture and fostering respectful relationships within the community. The circle is more than a physical space; it represents unity, understanding, and the continuation of stories passed down through generations.
The Smoking Ceremony connected everyone to Country, while the opening of the Yarning Circle marked a step forward in reconciliation and understanding. It was a day that celebrated culture, strengthened community bonds, and affirmed Asquith Public School’s dedication to walking together towards a shared future.
Harmony Day 2026 - Everyone Belongs
Asquith Public School students celebrated the diversity of our families' cultural heritages within our school. Proud displays of national costumes and the colour orange brightened our school grounds.
School Mural
Our school mural was completed in 2025 by mural artist Hugues Sineux. He created this bold and colourful mural on the side of our school hall. It now provides an interesting and engaging showpiece to our playground.
Cooling the Schools Program
The students planted native trees and shrubs with Greening Australia educators to grow shade and habitat, taking action on cooling Country and our school grounds.
Colour Run
In October 2025, our school grounds came alive with colour, laughter and energy for our very first Colour Run. Thanks to our P&C parent volunteers for organising this fabulous event and raising funds for new playground equipment
