Wellbeing

At our school, student wellbeing and learning go hand in hand. We want every student to feel safe, included and ready to learn. Whether your child needs help with their mental, emotional, social or physical wellbeing, we are here to help them thrive at school and in daily life.

How we support student wellbeing

Supporting each student’s mental, emotional, social and physical wellbeing is part of everyday school life.

We do this through:

Positive Behaviour for Learning

At our school, we use Positive Behaviour for Learning – a whole-school approach for creating a positive, safe and supportive school climate where students can learn and develop. Our whole school community works together to establish expected behaviours and teach them to all students.

Our school mascot is the rainbow lorikeet.

Our merit system rewards students with 'Lockies' for displaying positive behaviour and learning and representing our school values of:

Pride, Respect and Responsibility

School Wellbeing Program

School Wellbeing Program - The Resilience Project

The Resilience Project logo on blue background
This year we introduced a new wellbeing program to our school, The Resilience Project (TRP) which provides evidence based, practical wellbeing strategies to build resilience in our students. The Resilience Project focuses on Gratitude, Empathy, Mindfulness (GEM) and Emotional Literacy. It takes on a whole school approach with lessons specifically designed and implemented for K-6 students. The program offers support for students, teachers and parents. Please look out for TRP tips and activities in our newsletters.

Wellbeing Health In-Reach Nurse (WHIN)

A WHIN nurse is a healthcare professional who works within schools to support the physical and mental health needs of students. They provide accessible health care and wellbeing support onsite, helping to identify and address health issues early, promote healthy lifestyles, and connect students and families with appropriate health services. The goal of a WHIN nurse is to improve student wellbeing and create a supportive school environment. The nurse will work closely with staff, students, and families to promote wellbeing, manage health needs and connect the school community with health services.

Katie Strouthos is our WHIN at Asquith Public School. Please open the below resources to read how to engage the services of the WHIN.
